Kranji War Memorial

Kranji War Memorial

Honouring those who died in the line of duty during WWII, Kranji War Memorial is one of the most historical sites in Singapore. The place is also, home to the mass grave, holding 69 Chinese soldiers who were killed during the time the Japanese occupied Singapore. A sombre environ, enhanced by over 4000 white gravestones, the place exudes an ambience of sadness and love. A memorial service is held on every Sunday, just before the 11th of November in remembrance of the fallen heroes.

Indian National Army Monument

Located within the picturesque Esplanade Park, this monument is tipped to be one of the most visited attractions in the country. Erected in 1995, this is a marker which commemorates the 50th anniversary since the end of WWII; one of the best local cultural tourist attractions, this site was first home to a monument dedicated to an unknown Indian soldier. The original monument was destroyed during the war, and subsequently, the present one was built there. Definitely one to be listed in Well Known Places, this site is a must visit for all culture buffs.

The Battle Box

One of the most interesting bits of history in the country, the Battle Box was built to serve as a bomb-proof bunker during WWII, for the British Malaya Command Headquarters. Located nine metres under Fort Canning Hill, this site is tipped to be the place General Percival reached the rather bleak decision of handing over the country to the Japanese in 1942. Today the 26 rooms of the Battle Box, serve as a museum where wax figures, depict the various stages of battle. Moving figures and the use of animatronics offer a very interesting experience.
