The Acropolis was an ancient citadel standing on the sacred rock of Athens. The site is one of the most prominent sites in Europe. The remains of several architectural buildings such as the Parthenon, the Propylaia, Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion can be seen on site. It is said that the construction of this site took place in the fifth century BC. The buildings were seriously damaged during the siege by the Venetians in 1687. The ancient site of Aigai was discovered and excavated in 1976. As a result, a burial site of many Macedon kings was unearthed including that of Philip II, Father of Alexander the Great. The site also included a large royal palace and other artefacts which are displayed at the museum of Vergina.
Delphi stands amongst the slopes of Mount Parnassus and is one of the most fascinating sites of Greece.
