5 Incredible Things to Do in Livingstone – The Wonders of Africa

Livingstone is a picturesque town found in the southwestern reaches of Zambia. It is a region that's both bursting with natural beauty and vibrant culture. It's no surprise then that it is a favourite among tourists. So, if you're one of them, here're the 5 best things to do while you're here.

1

Visiting Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is by far Livingstone's most famous attraction. In fact, you'll find plenty of travellers who decided to visit Livingstone purely to view this magnificent waterfall. Almost any Livingstone hotel – say, for example, the Royal Livingstone Hotel by Anantara – will be sure to include a trip to Victoria Falls in their itinerary, so be sure to take them up on their offer. Be sure to get your timing right and visit the falls when the water is low. This will net you an unparalleled view of the endless stream of water crashing down. Once you've gotten your fill of viewing the waterfall, you can take a walk along the Zambezi and catch sight of the Boiling Point – a huge whirlpool that swells in the middle of the river.

2

Travel to the Devil's Pool

Don't leave Victoria Falls just yet, because after you've seen the falls and the nearby whirlpool, it's time to bathe in the Devil's Pool! This body of crystal-clear water is found right at the edge of the waterfall. As the hot sun begins to reach its zenith, why not take a dip and cool down, after all? You can even poke your head over the edge of the pool and marvel at the near-100m drop that exists beyond.

3

A Safari at Mosi-oa-Tunya

It wouldn't be a vacation in Africa without a safari now would it, and Livingstone doesn't disappoint in this regard. Right beside the Victoria Falls, you'll find the fantastic Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. It is an untamed wilderness expanse that's teeming with all the classic African game animals. Some of amazing animals you'll witness during a safari tour here include giraffe, zebra, herds of African elephants and the temperamental cape buffalo. You can also book a special walking tour to get up-close and personal with the park's rhinos. These majestic beasts are kept under 24-hour surveillance by park authorities to protect them from poachers.

4

Stroll Through Livingstone Museum

After all that excitement out in the wilderness, why not head into Livingstone Town and lean about the history and culture associated with the region. The best way to do this is to visit the Livingstone Museum – the largest and oldest museum found in the country! There are numerous exhibits here that tell the story of Livingstone – from its discovery to present day. You'll also find an array of tribal artefacts and relics that were used in traditional ceremonies and trials.

5

Relax at Café Zambezi

If you're looking to relax and enjoy the flavours of Zambia, the Café Zambezi is the place to be. Here you can enjoy a great range of African flavours while being serenaded by traditional music performances. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you can even try some of the exciting exotic dishes available here like smoky crocodile tails and fried woodland caterpillars!
